Viewing the Latest Version of a Web Page
Each time you open a web browsing session (when you start up your Netscape or
Internet Explorer program), at least once a day for many Internet users, it is recommended
that each web page you open the first time during that session you click on your
web browser's RELOAD (Netscape) or REFRESH
(Internet Explorer) button in the
toolbar. This will ensure that you are looking at the most up-to-date
version of that web page.
Because web browser programs store (called
cache) previously visited web pages for some period of time (which is
controllable by the user via the computer's settings), many computer users do
not know that some of the previously "saved" web page files may be
many days old, so when you open a web page some days later you may see the exact
same page you looked at many days ago, even though there really is a new version
on the Internet. The only way you get the latest version of the web page
is to click on the RELOAD or REFRESH button. You should get in the habit
of doing this. Be careful not to be misled by out-of-date information on a
website ... click Reload or Refresh and see that old data change.
Using
the FIND to Locate Words on a Web Page
On any web page on the Internet, if you are looking for a particular word or
group of words (subject, etc.), press the CTRL
key and the F keys together to get the
FIND
window. Enter the words you are interested in finding on that web page and
click FIND NEXT. It will look for the first location of the word on
the web page. Press the same keys again to see if the word shows up again
on the web page.
